Many Happy Returns… as long as it’s by January 31st

Jan 6, 2020 | Tax services, TC news

Did you know that Santa Claus is coming to town? Well seemingly he’s coming to Fife soon… for his holidays.  According to a particlular small person that I know, Fife is much warmer that the North Pole and it will be like Spain for Santa. You’ve got to love that fresh thinking!

The start of a new year, and indeed a new decade, is often a time we re-assess the way we see and do things.

Take deadlines for example.

We usually know they are coming up but many people just keep procrastinating until the last gasp. It’s stressful and allows little wriggle room for error but it can be a hard habit to break.

Now if you have to file a self assessment tax return, the deadline is Friday 31st January for online submissions. Not that far away.

Thousands of savvy taxpayers used the Christmas holidays to file theirs, with HMRC statistics showing that over 34,000 taxpayers submitted tax returns between Christmas Eve and Boxing Day, a healthy increase from last year.

So if you’ve decided to submit your own return, pick a date now and commit to it. Write it down, add it to your calendar, sticky note to the bathroom mirror, whatever works for you. It’ll be fine. If you don’t and miss the deadline you’ll be facing a fine…even if you’ve no tax to pay.

Want someone else to do your return? We can help. Our self assessment team can assist with all aspects of the process but you’ll need to act soon (as we get very busy closer to the deadline). Contact our Partner Carrie Campbell to arrange a free intial consultation or call 01383 628800.
