Scottish Apprenticeship Week 2023 – Unlocking potential

Scottish Apprenticeship Week, running from 6-10 March, aims to showcase how apprenticeships help to unlock potential in people and businesses.

The organiser, Skills Development Scotland, encourages learners and employers to share their apprenticeship stories and show how they can be mutually beneficial.  Apprenticeships allow people from diverse backgrounds and abilities to gain and develop skills that can be used throughout their careers, while also supporting economic priorities and commercial growth. There is also a Scottish Apprenticeship Awards show which will be broadcast on Wednesday 8 March 2023 from 7pm to 8pm.

So how are Thomson Cooper connected with Scottish Apprenticeship Week?

We believe sharing knowledge helps everyone. As an HR partner at Thomson Cooper Accountants, I contribute towards various initiatives to support young people in the community. I recently helped senior phase pupils at Dunfermline High School with some employability skills through Hand Picked from CR Smith. As I review many job applications in my role, I was able to give pupils real-life advice related to CVs and interviews and the importance of creating a positive first impression. I firmly believe that sharing knowledge like this builds confidence, and with confidence, people will flourish.

What do we offer?

We offer an intensive training programme and exposure to a wide and varied series of work to give our apprentices and students the practical experience required alongside theoretical learning. Our trainees gain valuable work experience alongside completing their qualification.

Many of our staff have trained with us and moved through the ranks to senior levels, including most of our current partners. We recognise that there are many ways to work towards a successful career, with several partners choosing not to undertake a University degree as part of their career path.

What are we looking for?

We currently have three fantastic apprentices in our team – Logan, Lee and Euan. Apprenticeships become available throughout the year and we offer apprenticeship training in various aspects of our business from accounting and administration to payroll and tax.

Bookmark our careers page or follow us on social media to learn more about our business and any apprenticeship opportunities as they become available.  You can find out more about apprenticeships in Scotland at www.apprenticeships.scot.
