Apprenticeship Success

We met Lee Duncanson back in March when highlighting Scottish Apprenticeship Week.  He joined us last year having recently left school. Lee was contemplating a course at a local college, however a visit to the Apprenticeships.scot website turned out to be the first step in his accounting career journey.

Well, we are delighted to say that Lee has now completed his apprenticeship in record time.

We asked Lee about his experience –

My business and administration apprenticeship consisted of 8 SVQ units based around my job role and was followed by 2 core skills units (ICT and Numeracy). It finished with an enhancement to bring the whole unit together. Every few weeks I would meet with my apprenticeship assessor from Limelight Careers and go over a unit, sometimes two towards the end of the apprenticeship.

What will your next steps be? More qualifications?

My next steps will be to improve my knowledge and ability in my role as a payroll administrator. It is a forever learning subject with legislation constantly changing and many different aspects to understand. I will also look to undertake a course with the Chartered Institution of Payroll Professionals (CIPP) which will allow me to gain another qualification around payroll in the near future.

Is there any advice you would give anyone else considering this pathway now?

I think apprenticeships are great and offer a variety of different experiences. I would advise any person who has an opportunity to take an apprenticeship role to do so as it saved me an enormous amount of time to gain my qualification while also being able to join the amazing payroll team at Thomson Cooper. I developed new skills which will help me in the future and the best part of all, being able to earn while you learn.
